In most cases the following is true. However, feel free to ask about any specific pronunciations.

 

Vowels:

a=ah

e=eh (except at the end of a word when e=ay)

i=ee

o=oh most of the time and always at the end of a word (sometimes o=awn when followed by an ‘n’)

u=oo (except adjacent to another vowel when u=w)

 

ou=ow as in ‘cow’

au=ow as in ‘cow’ when at the end of a word

iea=ee-ay

 

Other:

j=zh (like the ‘s’ in pleasure)
